THE RANCH
With the sun rising over Badlands National Park and setting behind Black Elk Peak of the famous Black Hills of South Dakota we are situated perfectly for your relaxation here in South Dakota. Our farm is just 22 miles outside of Rapid City, the gateway to the Black Hills, and 20 Miles from Badlands National Park. Thunderhead Ranch itself sits on 10 acres of returning prairie with a Main House, a shop, a pole barn, and of course the Guest Apartment.
THE EXPERIENCE
Your FarmStay begins by arriving at the farm and enjoying a home cooked meal; lots of comfort food for you to choose from and enjoy while relaxing after a day of traveling.
You may want to relax before hitting the sack so things such as a pool table, board games and a large screen TV and entertainment area are available.
Your sleeping accommodations include a Master bedroom with a queen bed and sliding doors onto a walkout porch to enjoy the morning sun. A second bedroom on the other side of the apartment also has a queen bed with an overhead twin bunk. There is a jack and jill walk in shower with plenty of space. If your family is larger let us know and we will get some additional comfy sleeping accommodations.
THE CHORES
The morning kicks off with chores at 7:00 AM you can choose to help or sleep late, this is your vacation and experience. There are goats, rabbits, chickens, and a few cats that all need feeding and watering on a daily basis.
Then it’s back to the apartment for breakfast! There are farm fresh eggs and local foods available in the fridge cooked the way you like it best. Don’t like dishes? Just scrape the food scraps into the compost bin and the napkins into the garbage, stick the dishes into the dishwasher, hit start and you’re done!
We have chores again in the evening at about 7:00 PM. We hope you are here to help and get the full experience, but we understand that there is lots to do in the Black Hills. There are also lots of great places to eat in the area or if you choose one of our meal packages the ingredients will be in the fridge ready to go. Light the pellet grill, enjoy an evening looking at Black Elk Peak and relax, we get to do it again tomorrow!
